Videos of our walks

Dogs are social creatures and love to play, sniff exercise with their friends. Well exercised, socialised and trained dogs make it easy for you to take them out to parks, on holidays and on visits to friends or familys’ homes without it being stressful for either of you. A well balanced and socialised dog is a very happy dog.

Agility is the key

Here is an example of one of my dog walks. All the dogs have lots of fun and exercise in the country and the woods and enjoy running, jumping and swimming as part of their daily exercise. There’s no street walking on leads, just good old fashioned pack behaviour to stimulate the mind and body of your best friend.
Remember that although dogs love humans they are social creatures of spirit and need to be with their own species.

Keeping your dog healthy involves more than just physical exercise. Most of us understand our dog’s need for physical exercise; we provide it by going on walks, running, playing chase, or something similar. Less well understood is our dog’s need for mental exercise, too.

Most dog breeds were developed to perform a specific job of some sort such as protecting the owner, herding livestock, hunting game – these are a few examples of the types of work dogs have been bred to perform. Do some breed research to find out what “life purpose” is inherent in your dog and use that information to fulfill his need for mental exercise.

Just as adults and children benefit from social interaction, your dog will benefit from playing with other dogs. Because dogs are pack animals, they are naturally inclined to social play.

Those of you who have watched ‘Cesar Milan’, the dog whisperer, will be familiar with his ‘power of the pack’ methodology. We experienced the power of the pack ourselves in mid 2008 when we rescued our Rottweiler George. Our own trainer ‘Dima Yeremenko’ invites his clients to join him on his own dog walking sessions with his ‘stooge’ pack (featured in the photo’s). Transition from dogs home to new home for a rescue dog can take its time as it establishes boundaries, so, positive experiences are imperative. It is said... [Read more]

As you will be aware both today’s domestic dogs and wolves are related to each other? From the Wolfhound and Great Dane to the smallest toy breed, all breed of dogs are direct descendants of the wolf and have inherited many of the wolf’s behaviors and characteristics and the ability to travel long distances . Your dog can benefit greatly from walking by getting an adequate amount exercise and the great side effect of dog walking is that it gives your dog the opportunity to socialise with other dogs and meet people. Dogs have different energy levels and walking your... [Read more]

Another fine sunrise on Nomansland common, it’s a great way to start the day if you haven’t got to be on a train to London. No matter what the weather’s like (barring torrential rain that is) it’s always a pleasure during any season to walk up and stand at the top of the hill on Nomansland and look out towards Wheathampstead. Heartwood Forest We are  so lucky to have all this wonderful new forest site on our doorstep The Woodland Trust has purchased 858 acres (347 hectares) of land to create the new Heartwood forest, having raised over £4 million towards... [Read more]
